Job Description: We are seeking compassionate, reliable, and experienced SEN support staff to join a secondary school in Derby. This role involves providing 1:1 support for a student with complex physical and medical needs. The successful candidate will support a wheelchair user who requires hoisting, intimate personal care, and PEG feeding, ensuring their safety, dignity, and wellbeing at all times while enabling full access to education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a student with complex needs throughout the school day
- Safely carry out hoisting and moving & handling procedures
- Provide intimate personal care with sensitivity and professionalism
- Administer PEG feeding in line with medical care plans and training
- Monitor the student’s wellbeing and respond appropriately to medical needs
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and healthcare professionals
- Maintain accurate records and follow school safeguarding and health & safety policies
Essential Requirements:
- Experience supporting students with SEN and complex physical needs
- Hoist and moving & handling training
- Intimate care experience
- Medical training, including PEG feeding (or willingness to undertake training)
- Experience working with wheelchair users
- A caring, patient, and professional approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a school or educational setting
- Relevant qualifications in health, care, or education
