About the Role
As an SEMH English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons to pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support.
You will build strong, trusting relationships with your students, helping them overcome barriers to learning while developing their confidence, literacy skills, and love of English.
Working alongside Learning Support Assistants, pastoral teams, and senior leaders, you will create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil has the opportunity to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Differentiate learning to meet individual abilities and EHCP targets.
- Promote positive behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
- Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and engagement.
- Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies where required.
- Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, carers, and external professionals.
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment.
What We're Looking For
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - Essential.
- Experience teaching
English at KS3 and KS4.
- Experience working with pupils with
SEMH , SEND, or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their full potential.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches would be advantageous.
