TeacherActive have proudly supported this fantastic SEMH school in Chelmsford for the past 5 years, and due to continued growth, the school is now looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Lead to join their team on a permanent basis from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference within a nurturing and supportive specialist setting that works with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The Role
The successful Pastoral Lead will play a key role in supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, engagement and overall personal development across the school. Working closely with the senior leadership team, teaching staff, families and external agencies, you will help create a safe, positive and inclusive environment where every young person can thrive.
Responsibilities:
- Providing pastoral support and guidance to students with SEMH needs
- Building strong and positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers
- Supporting behaviour strategies and emotional regulation approaches
- Managing attendance, safeguarding concerns and wellbeing interventions
- Working collaboratively with external professionals and agencies
- Promoting positive outcomes, resilience and engagement in learning
- Acting as a trusted and consistent adult role model within the school
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working within an SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or pastoral setting
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A calm, empathetic and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Safeguarding knowledge and understanding
