We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Camden. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs, particularly those who may present challenging behaviour.
You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to support pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them to access the curriculum and develop positive behaviours for learning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs
- Support pupils who display challenging behaviour, using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management techniques
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans, and risk assessments
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment
- Assist pupils with emotional regulation, social skills, and communication
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, therapists, and parents/carers
- Support learning both in and outside the classroom, including playground and transition times
- Record and report on pupil progress and behaviour as required
- Proven experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary school setting
- Strong experience managing challenging behaviour, including de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Good understanding of SEN needs and inclusive education
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Right to work in the UK
