TeacherActive is supporting a specialist Engineering School in Chelmsley Wood with the recruitment of a Teacher of Design & Electronics. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated teacher or industry professional looking to transition into education and make a real impact across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons to students from Year 9 to Year 13, combining theoretical learning with practical workshop and electronics-based activities. The successful candidate will contribute to a forward-thinking department focused on innovation, technical excellence, and preparing students for progression into further education, apprenticeships, and engineering careers.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about STEM education and capable of delivering inspiring lessons across areas such as electronics, design engineering, product design, CAD/CAM, and practical workshop skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Design & Technology and Electronics lessons across Years 9-13
  • Plan and prepare creative lesson materials and practical activities
  • Teach theoretical and hands-on engineering and electronics concepts effectively
  • Support students in developing technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Assess student work and provide constructive feedback to support progress
  • Monitor learner achievement and maintain accurate records of attainment
  • Maintain a safe, organised, and stimulating workshop/classroom environment
  • Contribute to the wider STEM and engineering enrichment opportunities within the school

Requirements

  • A qualification in Design Technology, Engineering, Electronics, or a related subject
  • Relevant teaching qualification is desirable, although industry professionals are encouraged to apply
  • Experience teaching or working within engineering, electronics, product design, or manufacturing
  • Ability to deliver both practical and theory-based lessons confidently
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Passion for supporting young people in achieving their full potential
