TeacherActive are proud to be working with a brilliant SEND school based in Selly Oak. They are seeking an experienced and committed Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to join their specialist SEND provision in Selly Oak, Birmingham. This is a key role with responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection across the setting.

This post is offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent subject to service needs and performance.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders, staff, external agencies, and families to promote a strong culture of safeguarding and ensure that all children and young people are safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education and local safeguarding procedures
  • Manage and oversee safeguarding concerns, referrals, and records, ensuring accurate and confidential documentation
  • Liaise with external agencies including Children’s Services, health professionals, and other safeguarding partners
  • Provide safeguarding advice, guidance, and support to staff
  • Deliver and coordinate safeguarding training and updates for staff
  • Contribute to policy development and ensure safeguarding policies are implemented effectively
  • Monitor safeguarding practices within a SEND context, ensuring the specific needs of vulnerable learners are fully considered
About You
  • Proven experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, or a Deputy DSL with relevant experience ready to step into the role
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance, particularly within SEND provisions
  • Highly organised, professional, and confident in managing sensitive and complex cases
  • Excellent communication and multi-agency working skills
  • Ability to work independently in a mainly office-based role while collaborating closely with the wider team
