TeacherActive is proud to be working with a well-established Pupil Referral Unit in Birmingham, which operates across seven campuses throughout the city. The provision supports Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students who require additional behavioural and emotional support, providing a structured, inclusive environment where young people are encouraged to re‑engage with education and achieve their full potential.

The school is looking to appoint a Behaviour Teaching Assistant on both long‑term and short‑term assignments with an immediate start available. The successful Behaviour Teaching Assistant will support students both inside and outside of the classroom, helping to manage behaviour, promote engagement with learning and provide consistent encouragement to students who may present with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or have experienced barriers to education.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with teaching staff, administrators and students to maintain a positive learning environment and support the achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Managing challenging behaviour and supporting students to develop positive relationships.
  • Promoting engagement with learning and encouraging students with SEMH needs.
  • Assisting in behaviour management plans and fostering a structured, inclusive environment.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Learning Support Assistant or in a similar support role.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and ability to build positive relationships quickly.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting young people.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to support across KS3 and KS4.
