Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you want to make a positive impact on children\’s lives? TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Basildon starting September 2025.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support due to social, emotional, or mental health challenges. Your role will involve assisting the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities, fostering a safe and nurturing environment, and helping pupils develop their social and emotional skills.
Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to access the curriculum effectively
- Implementing individualised support plans and behaviour management strategies
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional well-being
- Assisting with personal care and daily routines where necessary
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Contributing to a supportive and inclusive school environment
Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs is preferred
- Caring, patient, and resilient with excellent communication skills
- Enthusiastic about making a difference in young people\’s lives
- Flexible and adaptable to changing needs
- Team player with a positive attitude
Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning are desirable but not essential
- DBS clearance registered on the update service (or willing to apply)
