TeacherActive are proud to be working with a specialist academy in Birmingham to recruit an experienced and qualified School Counsellor.
This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated professional to join a supportive pastoral, safeguarding and wellbeing team, providing a confidential counselling service to students aged 14-19.
The Role:
- Provide professional counselling and therapeutic interventions to students.
- Support young people with mental health, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
- Build trusting therapeutic relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Carry out safeguarding procedures, risk assessments and appropriate referrals.
- Work closely with pastoral, safeguarding, SEND and attendance teams, as well as external agencies.
- Support students in developing resilience, coping strategies and positive outcomes.
The Ideal Candidate:
- A recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Counselling Psychology or equivalent.
- Membership or accreditation with a recognised professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCPS.
- Experience delivering counselling or therapeutic interventions to young people.
- Experience supporting adolescents with mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and relational approaches.
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in a secondary school, sixth form or further education setting is desirable.
