About the role and school
Teach Plus are working with a welcoming primary school in Newham that is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional and pastoral support.
The successful Behaviour Mentor will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to help pupils develop positive behaviour, emotional regulation and confidence in the classroom.
This role would suit an experienced Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or someone with a background in youth work, sports coaching or pastoral support who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide targeted support to pupils with behavioural and emotional needs
- Develop positive relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and social development
- Implement agreed behaviour strategies and interventions
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support where required
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning
- Work closely with class teachers and SEN staff
- Support pupils during transitions and less structured periods
- Monitor progress and communicate relevant information to staff
- Help create a calm, safe and inclusive school environment
Qualifications/Experience
- Previous experience supporting children or young people
- Experience with behaviour, SEN or SEMH is highly desirable
- Calm, resilient and patient approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confident managing challenging behaviourAble to build trust and positive relationships with pupils
- Youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or pastoral experience advantageous
- Passionate about supporting children's development and wellbeing
