About the role and school

Teach Plus are currently working with a welcoming primary school in East London who are looking to appoint a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for an ASAP start.

The successful 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant will provide dedicated support to a KS2 pupil with autism and an EHCP, while also assisting with wider classroom learning.

The school is looking for someone who is confident, patient and able to build a strong relationship with the pupil. A sporting background would be particularly advantageous, as sport and physical activity can play an important role in helping the pupil with engagement and regulation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who wants to develop their experience supporting pupils with autism within a primary school environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil with autism.
  • Support the pupil to access learning and classroom activities.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Use sport and physical activity to encourage engagement where appropriate.
  • Promote independence and confidence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider support team.
  • Follow strategies outlined within the pupil's EHCP.
  • Support the pupil during lessons, break times and wider school activities.
  • Maintain high safeguarding standards.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Previous experience working within a UK primary school is essential.
  • SEN experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with autism would be advantageous.
  • A sporting background or experience coaching children would be beneficial.
  • Patient, resilient and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Valid DBS on the Update Service is desirable.
