BSL Teaching Assistant
Start Date: ASAP Location: East London Full-time Salary: £108 - £130 per day
About the role and school
Teach Plus are currently working with a supportive school in East London who are looking to appoint a confident and experienced BSL Teaching Assistant.
This is an excellent opportunity for a BSL Teaching Assistant with strong communication skills and experience supporting children who use British Sign Language. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils can fully access learning and communicate effectively throughout the school day.
You will provide classroom support while using BSL to facilitate communication, encourage participation and promote pupils' independence.
The school is looking for a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant who is patient, adaptable and passionate about supporting children with hearing or communication needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide classroom support to pupils who use BSL.
- Facilitate communication between pupils and teaching staff.
- Support pupils to access lessons and classroom activities.
- Use BSL confidently throughout the school day.
- Reinforce learning through appropriate communication strategies.
- Support pupils' social, emotional and academic development.
- Encourage independence and confidence.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff.
- Adapt resources and activities to support accessibility.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications/Experience
- Strong BSL skills are essential.
- Previous experience working with children or young people is highly desirable.
- Experience within a school or SEN setting is advantageous.
- Experience supporting pupils with hearing impairment or communication needs would be beneficial.
- Patient, calm and adaptable approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff.
- Genuine passion for inclusive education.
- Relevant BSL qualification or equivalent experience is desirable.
