SEND Teacher – PMLD and SLD Location: Hertfordshire Salary: £39,196–£58,120 (M1–UPS3), depending on experience and position on the teacher pay scale Contract: Full-time, permanent Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, term time only Start date: 2 November 2026 Teach Now is seeking a passionate and experienced SEND Teacher to join a supportive specialist school in Hertfordshire. This is a rewarding opportunity to help pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and severe learning disabilities (SLD) reach their full potential. Previous teaching experience within a special school is essential for this position.
The role
- Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons.
- Create a safe, structured and nurturing classroom environment.
- Set and review individual learning targets.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews and wider pupil-planning meetings.
- Lead and work closely with teaching assistants and support staff.
- Collaborate with families, therapists and external professionals.
- Support pupils with personal care needs.
- Participate in swimming sessions with pupils.
- Monitor progress and celebrate achievements across all areas of development.
- Potentially lead a National Curriculum subject area.
- Contribute to extracurricular activities and occasional after‑school events.
About you
- Hold UK QTS and have successfully completed Initial Teacher Training.
- Have recent teaching experience in a special school or similar specialist setting.
- Have experience supporting pupils with PMLD and SLD.
- Be comfortable supporting personal care and taking part in swimming sessions.
- Have high expectations for every pupil and a strong commitment to inclusion.
- Communicate effectively with families, colleagues and external professionals.
- Be organised, reliable and able to lead a classroom team.
- Be committed to safeguarding and have the right to work in the UK.
A SEND specialism, relevant first aid or medical training, and experience in curriculum development would be advantageous. The school offers a comprehensive induction, ongoing CPD and continued professional development in SEND teaching and learning.
