Learning Support Assistant (Secondary) – Barnet, North London

Location: Barnet, London | Pay: £100–£101.10 per day | Job Type: Part-Time | Temporary | Start Date: September 2026

Salary is based on experience and qualifications. Higher rates apply to candidates with significant experience and/or qualifications. A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Barnet is looking to appoint three Learning Support Assistants to join its dedicated support team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers or anyone passionate about supporting students with a range of learning needs in a vibrant secondary school environment. Whether you’re considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy or another education-based profession, this role offers invaluable classroom experience alongside experienced educators.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students in lessons across a range of curriculum subjects
• Working one-to-one and with small groups to reinforce learning
• Helping students with SEND and additional learning needs access the curriculum
• Promoting positive behaviour, confidence and independence
• Assisting teachers with classroom resources and learning activities
• Supporting students’ organisation, study skills and emotional wellbeing
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
• Working collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams

Essential Requirements

• GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
• Knowledge of ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia

Desirable

• A degree (completed or in progress)
• Experience working with children or young people through tutoring, coaching, mentoring, youth work or volunteering
• An interest in teaching or another education-related career
• Knowledge of SEND (training can be provided)
