Date: 1 September 2026 Phase: Primary - KS1/KS2 Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
Higher rates are available for candidates with extensive SEN experience and relevant training.
Pay is determined in line with Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
Teach Now is seeking a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a welcoming primary school in Merton.
This role would suit someone who understands the importance of routine, patience, communication and personalised support.
The school has a strong inclusive culture and is committed to helping every child access learning in a way that works for them.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with ASD.
- Help pupils access learning through adapted resources and clear routines.
- Use visual timetables, now-and-next boards or communication aids where appropriate.
- Support social communication, emotional regulation and independence.
- Assist with transitions throughout the school day.
- Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and support staff to follow individual plans.
- Record observations and share feedback on pupil progress and engagement.
Requirements
- Experience supporting children with ASD or other special educational needs.
- Experience in a primary school, SEN provision, nursery, care setting or similar environment.
- Understanding of autism-friendly approaches and communication support.
- Patient, observant and consistent approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
- Relevant qualifications are desirable, including Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, childcare, SEND training or a related degree.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
