About the Role

Teach Now is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with physical disabilities in an inclusive primary school in Harrow. Working within a Year 3 or Year 4 classroom, you will help the pupil access lessons, activities and the wider school environment safely and confidently. A key part of the role is providing practical physical support, including personal care, nappy changing, mobility assistance, transfers and positioning, while always protecting the pupils dignity and privacy. You will work closely with the class teacher and SEND team, following agreed care plans, moving and handling procedures and safeguarding guidance. The aim is to provide the right level of support without creating unnecessary dependence, encouraging the pupil to build independence wherever possible. This role is best suited to someone with previous experience supporting children or young people with physical disabilities and personal care needs who is calm, respectful and confident with hands‑on support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with physical disabilities.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers and positioning in line with agreed procedures and training.
  • Provide personal and intimate care, including nappy changing, while maintaining dignity and privacy.
  • Help the pupil access lessons, activities and shared school spaces safely.
  • Encourage independence by supporting rather than taking over tasks the pupil can manage.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SEND team to maintain consistent support.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with physical disabilities.
  • Essential experience providing personal care and nappy changing.
  • Confidence supporting mobility, transfers and other physical needs.
  • Experience following individual care plans and moving and handling procedures.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
  • The right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS and other safeguarding checks.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive, inclusive mainstream primary environment.
  • A clear 1:1 role within a Year 3 or Year 4 classroom.
  • Close collaboration with the class teacher and SEND team.
  • The opportunity to build specialist experience supporting physical disabilities.
  • A school ethos focused on dignity, inclusion and developing pupil independence.
