Higher-level Teaching Assistant – SEN
Teach Now is looking for a confident, experienced, and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (SEN) to work within a dedicated SEN class/unit in a primary school in Enfield.
This is a rewarding long‑term opportunity for a skilled HLTA with strong SEN experience and the confidence to lead a small group of pupils with complex needs and autism.
The successful candidate will support and help run a class of around 10 children, all of whom require a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Role
As an SEN HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting the learning, development and wellbeing of pupils within the SEN class/unit. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting and leading a group of around 10 pupils with complex needs and autism.
- Helping to run the room/class confidently and effectively.
- Delivering planned learning activities and adapting support where needed.
- Supporting pupils with communication, emotional regulation and engagement.
- Helping pupils access the curriculum in a structured and meaningful way.
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and support staff.
- Managing routines, behaviour and expectations within the SEN setting.
- Creating a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Using initiative and responding confidently to the needs of the class.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children with SEN, complex needs and autism.
- Experience as an HLTA, SEN Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor or similar.
- The confidence to lead a small group or class within an SEN setting.
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
- A good understanding of the primary curriculum, or the ability to learn it quickly.
- The ability to think on your feet and adapt to changing situations.
- A calm, resilient, organised and proactive approach.
- The ability to work well as part of a team.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
