Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinician

We have an exciting opportunity to join a tikanga Māori wellness organisation committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau. This role combines clinical expertise with whānau-centred and culturally responsive practice, helping young people and their families achieve positive mental health outcomes through early intervention, assessment, and therapeutic support.

About the role

As a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinician, you will provide specialised mental health assessment, intervention, and support for tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau experiencing emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver evidence-based interventions while embedding kaupapa Māori approaches that strengthen whānau wellbeing and resilience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing comprehensive assessments, whānau ora plans, cultural assessments, and risk screenings to support safe and effective care.
  • Providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including CBT, DBT, family therapy, motivational interviewing, and group-based approaches.
  • Working alongside tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau to develop and implement personalised support plans.
  • Supporting whānau to access appropriate health, social, and community services through coordinated referrals and advocacy.
  • Building and strengthening connections with whānau, hapū, and iwi to support sustainable wellbeing outcomes.
  • Collaborating with Te Whatu Ora, CAMHS, AOD services, schools, and community organisations to ensure integrated care.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, referral intake hui, and case reviews.
  • Supporting child protection processes and promoting child safety through best practice and legislative compliance.
  • Providing clinical consultation and support across Te Piki Oranga mental health services where required.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation, reporting, and outcome measurement requirements.

You will bring

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in mental health, psychology, counselling, social work, occupational therapy, nursing, or a related health profession.
  • Current registration and a practising certificate with the appropriate professional body.
  • Experience working with tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau within mental health services.
  • Experience working with Māori whānau and an understanding of kaupapa Māori approaches to wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health assessment, intervention, and risk management.
  • Strong therapeutic, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and across community networks.
  • A commitment to cultural development, continuous learning, and whānau-centred practice.
  • Strong clinical judgement, resilience, and professional integrity.
  • A current Full NZ Driver Licence.
