The Ruggedized Fiber Optic (RFO) Hiring for R&D/PRODUCT DVL TECHNICIAN III (6-3-T) supplies the quick‑turn capabilities needed for prototypes and customer samples. It provides tooling designs in support of new products and processes to meet customer ramp‑up schedules. In summary, the role creates cost‑effective solutions for first NPI product builds and prepares those products for transfer to production.

The position is for an experienced fiber‑optic technician who will be a key member of simultaneous R&D engineering teams and will be responsible for:

  • Optical connector assembly
  • Termination of various configurations of fiber‑optic cable assemblies
  • Testing of these assemblies
  • Operation of the fiber router
  • Completion of the over‑molding process
  • Process development
  • Resolution of problems encountered in bringing new optical products from concept to market

The role also involves providing suggestions for the simplification of new products to reduce costs and increase overall manufacturing efficiency, working as a team member with remote sites and outside vendors, being a self‑starter, and balancing workload under schedule pressures.

Job Requirements:

  • Termination of various standard fiber‑optic termini as well as new termini designs
  • Support prototype product builds, test product builds, and pre‑release NPI builds
  • Perform IL & RL testing of various configurations of cable assemblies
  • Perform EFG & IPC (workmanship) checks on both single & multi‑fiber termini
  • Use mechanical aptitude to safely & efficiently operate equipment, clear faults, and acknowledge machine states
  • Assist in the estimation process step durations
  • Assist in setting up new manufacturing processes
  • Suggest process changes to improve overall manufacturing efficiencies
  • Communicate within a team atmosphere to ensure clarity of purpose & customer satisfaction
  • Soldering & PCBA assembly skills for wire harnesses, connectors, passive components (resistors, capacitors, etc.), and ICs
  • Use of fiber‑optic & electronic test equipment: optical power meters, IL/RL test, oscilloscope, DMM, variable power supplies, variable attenuators, optical & RF switch

What Your Background Should Look Like:

  • Completed high school or equivalent; minimum 3‑4 years of experience in a fiber‑optic manufacturing environment
  • Good time‑management skills to work on numerous projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail, following BOMs, routers, and understanding drawings/prints
  • Proficient dexterity & motor skills for intricate/delicate work
  • Requisite Excel skills to record, organize, & analyze data
