Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to material properties, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
  • Analyse Product Requirement specifications to determine best manufacturing routing in Operations in the development of equipment, processes and products.
  • Produce required tolerance analysis, process capability analysis and bills of materials for equipment.
  • Responsible for CAD tooling design and cost estimates and resource requirements on new processing equipment to the engineering manager and project managers.
  • Review product requirements with respect to extrusion and expansion processes and machine capabilities with Product Development engineering.
  • Determine tools, fixtures and equipment to be used in extrusion, cross linking, expansion and finishing processes.
  • Select appropriate purchase component for process tooling and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates.
  • Examine project instructions and drawings to improve test equipment and problems involved in designing, changing or re-arranging processing lines.
  • Research available technologies with the objective of improving product quality, reducing cost or increasing capacity; develop sensible plans to evaluate, implement and then to audit the efficacy of completed technology improvement projects.
  • Develop equipment requirement and specification documents.
  • Lead and implement process validations.
  • Plan, execute, evaluate and document new equipment plant trials and complete summary reports.

What your background should look like:

  • 5+ years of experience in various engineering fields relating to manufacturing, new product and process development, automation and equipment design.
  • BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field, focusing on process equipment design and automated systems.
  • Experience with extrusion and applicable tooling and high-shear compound mixing is desired.
  • Proficient in CAD.
  • Proficient in ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of control systems is desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including presentations and public speaking.
