The Aerospace Defence and Marine (AD&M) business unit of TE Connectivity is a leader in the development and engineering of a comprehensive portfolio of connectors, fibre optics, wires, cables, antennas, circuit protectors, and mouldings for harsh‑environment applications. AD&M serves a global customer base, supported by over 6,000 employees delivering a broad range of solutions. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Product Engineer to join AD&M’s Ruggedised Fiber Optics (RFO) team, with a primary focus on sustaining engineering. RFO is a leading designer, developer, and manufacturer of optical and optoelectronic products for telecom/datacom, oil and gas, industrial, military, and broadcast markets. As part of the AD&M team, you will join a group of professionals committed to business growth through integrity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This position reports to the RFO Engineering Supervisor in the UK and is based at TE Connectivity’s Swindon site.
Your main tasks:
- Support sustaining engineering activities for Ruggedised Fiber Optic (RFO) products in TE’s Hastings and Swindon plant locations.
- Liaise with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams at UK and global plant locations.
- Create and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support ECN implementation.
- Create and update engineering drawings and models using SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD/ZWCAD.
- Support product extensions, drawing updates, and engineering change activities for military and commercial markets.
- Contribute to design reviews, technical documentation, and product improvement initiatives.
Your ideal background:
Qualifications
- HND/BSc degree in Mechanical, Optoelectronic, or related Engineering discipline.
- Typically, 2–5 years’ experience in a product engineering, design engineering, or sustaining engineering role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a core project team member.
- UK security clearance / UK MIL access required or ability to obtain.
Critical Experience
- Competency using CAD tools relevant to the role (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of engineering change control and sustaining engineering activities.
- Exposure to design verification and qualification testing (DVT / Qual).
- Basic understanding of DFMEA / PFMEA and design risk assessment tools.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and early production builds.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and cross functional engineering support.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within an individual project or small programme.
Preferred Competencies
- Understanding of fibre optic systems or harsh environment interconnect products.
- Experience working in regulated or high reliability industries (Aerospace, Defence, Industrial).
- Exposure to general engineering tools such as LEAN, Six Sigma, or Design of Experiments (DoE).
- Experience using SAP.
