Job Overview

TE Connectivity\’s Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD-driven new product development projects, driving excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods, and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to improve process and tolerance control. They serve as the vital link between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this interface. They assist Product Development in optimizing designs and parts for manufacturability by creating sample tooling, products, and prototypes. They also plan, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in TE systems, verify supplier compliance and capability, and initiate continuous improvement programs to enhance quality, cost, and cycle time, adhering to specifications, regulatory, and customer requirements. This team is the global process leader for Automation and Assembly, reporting directly to the Sr Director of Manufacturing Engineering in the Aerospace, Marine, and Defense Business Unit.

Short Description

  • Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership in Automation & Assembly for the Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering teams and manufacturing plants.
  • Process Leadership and Expertise: Serve as a process leader in automation, controls, vision, and semi-automation, ensuring optimal performance for quality and output.
  • Operational Strategy and Organizational Development: Contribute to defining operational strategy and develop the organization to support business strategy, managing complex, multi-functional teams.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Lead the successful transfer of new products from Engineering to Manufacturing, ensuring seamless process and system integration.
  • Optimize Time to Market: Ensure successful new product launches meet customer timelines.
  • LEANPD Driven New Product Development: Play a key role in LEANPD-driven projects, ensuring adherence to Lean principles.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Development, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and other departments for alignment and effective communication.
  • Interface Between Development and Manufacturing: Act as the link between product development and manufacturing engineering to optimize design for manufacturability.
  • Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost.
  • Tooling and Process Development: Design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes, documenting all procedures.
  • Manufacturing Technologies: Strive for excellence in existing technologies and implement new ones to improve processes.
  • Technology Integration: Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, driving adoption of innovative solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Initiate programs to improve quality, cost, and cycle time, aligning with TEOA and BDPs.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Regulatory and Quality Assurance: Maintain compliance with specifications, standards, and customer requirements, following GMP.
  • Resource Management: Effectively manage personnel, equipment, and budgets to meet schedules and deadlines.

Background Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Controls/Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Assembly/Automation environments.
  • Expertise in vision, automation, controls, and fixture design.
  • Experience in low volume, high mix manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with military/aerospace manufacturing is a plus.
  • Strong cross-functional teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for all organizational levels.
  • Lean Design for Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, global environment with changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of JMP and Minitab is desirable.
  • Project management skills essential.
  • Willingness to travel 25%-50% globally.
