Job Overview

TE Connectivity\’s Manufacturing Engineering Teams are process leaders for stamping, molding or assembly related topics, ensuring the processes are running at optimum levels for quality and output. They are experts in mold tooling, die tooling, machining, and assembly techniques, possessing extensive knowledge of the associated manufacturing processes which may include the optimization and standardization of stamping / molding / assembly or other processes within the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing Engineering Teams enable the TE business unit plants to reach TE Operating Advantage (TEOA) requirements, roll out Centers of Excellence (COE), Best Demonstrated Practices (BDP’s) and advise plants on tool and machine duplications / corrections / improvements. They design and develop manufacturing process and automation platforms and apply them for the realization of new product developments as well as optimization of existing products already in production. The Teams also support Product Development in the selection and optimization of tools for piece part production and the selection of the most suitable manufacturing concepts relative to planned manufacturing quantities, quality requirements and manufacturing location. They act as interface between engineering and production to ensure manufacturability of new designs and smooth production ramp up as well as support the research & development teams to produce sample manufacturing equipment, product samples and prototypes.

What your background should look like:

  • To have the ability to create efficient and effective manufacturing improvement programmes for the company assembly areas. Use this knowledge to define the parameters and process for other teammates to follow and provide the appropriate checks and balances on their work to maintain standards.
  • To provide advice and training to the manufacturing teammates in numerous areas, such as process deployment / new tooling design / technology implementation / fixture or testing settings etc.
  • Review and monitor process production readiness and provide, define and document equipment required, such as gauges / tooling / programs etc,training for the programming function as required.
  • Use technical expertise to define, document and provide training for current best practice, ensuring cost effective, repeatable and high quality practices are used for both existing production, product transfers from other TE sites and New Product Introductions (NPI).
  • Support production areas to achieve their KPI’s by attending daily meetings and providing technical solutions to challenges as they arrise, including quality investigations and machine capability studies.
  • Enable the smooth integration of new products into production by documenting tooling, work holding and gauging requirements in routings and specifications.
  • Ensure budget costs are captured, calculated and managed correctly by maintaining the integrity of routed times, work centres and costed batch sizes in ERP system.
  • Investigate and initiate method improvement and cost saving projects in the Production areas.
  • Requirements:

    Education HNC or Degree in Mechanical or production Engineering

    Experience
    Extensive practical knowledge of manufacturing environments gained through experience in a production environment of a related industry.

    Essential Knowledge & Skills

    • The ability to project manage, run and trouble shoot production solutions on connector, cable or electrical assemblies and second operation processes.
    • Computer literate using Microsoft software.
    • Previous experience maintaining an ERP system, budget controls and reporting of project solutions.
    • Experience in ensuring quality and lessons learned with flow diagrams, PFMEA’s, control plans and quality inspection plans.
    • Identifies and recommends new or improved manufacturing processes and technical developments.
    • Ability to use own initiative to ‘troubleshoot’ problems in Production areas as they arise using industry tools such as 5 why’s, fishbone diagrams and 8D reports.
    • Continuous improvement involving Quick Change Over (SMED), 5S+1, Mistake Proofing, TPM systems, Standards of Work etc.
    • Worked on capital investment projects and delivered results.
    • Experience of managing external resources and suppliers to the manufacturing industries.
    • Drive and passion to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work on own initiative and be creative.

    Desirable Knowledge & Skills

    • Experience with CAD systems, SAP or Sage
    • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or equivalent such as Red X.
    • Tool and fixture design experience with SolidWorks, Creo or other design package.
    • Project management skills when delivering projects.
    • Experience with digital machine connectivity.
    • Continuous improvement involving Material Replenishment and Flow, Cycle Wheels, 5S, TIMWOODS (8 Wastes), Heijunka Boards, KanBan etc.
