The New Homes Ombudsman Service (NHOS) was established in 2022 to provide independent redress for purchasers of new homes across the UK.

We investigate unresolved complaints, promote fair outcomes for consumers and developers, and identify opportunities to improve quality and standards across the new homes sector.

NHOS currently provides redress services for developers signed up to the New Homes Quality Code, covering more than 65% of all privately built new homes in the UK, with ambitions to expand further across the sector.

NHOS operates independently and is part of the TDS Group, a not-for-profit organisation specialising in dispute resolution services.

We are seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to join our Board and contribute to the strategic leadership, governance and continued development of NHOS.

This is an exciting opportunity to support an organisation that is making a tangible difference to consumers while helping to improve standards across the housing industry.

Our Non-Executive Directors play a vital role in supporting and constructively challenging the Chief Ombudsman and executive team, ensuring effective governance and helping shape the organisation's future direction.

  • Support the development and delivery of corporate strategy and business plans.
  • Provide constructive challenge and independent oversight to the executive team.
  • Promote high standards of corporate governance and risk management.
  • Monitor organisational performance and ensure effective use of resources.
  • Support the development of strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government, industry bodies and partner organisations.
  • Act as an ambassador for NHOS and safeguard its reputation.
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation and its stakeholder community.

  • Experience contributing to effective governance and decision-making.
  • A commitment to fairness, integrity and public service values.
  • The ability to provide both support and constructive challenge at Board level.

  • Attending around six Board meetings annually.
  • Reviewing Board papers and providing feedback.
  • Participating in strategy sessions and occasional additional meetings.
  • Liaising with the Chair, Chief Ombudsman and fellow Board members.
  • Representing NHOS at relevant events and stakeholder meetings when required.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
