Automatic and Industrial Door Engineer

Location: Reading

Salary: up to £24 per hour, based on experience, plus a lucrative commission scheme.

Responsibilities
  • Servicing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of automatic doors (70%) and industrial doors (30%).
  • Fault finding on electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment.
  • Basic electrical wiring.
  • Adhering to industry standards such as BS EN 16005 and DHF.
  • Providing customers with advice and identifying the best solutions to their individual requirements.
  • Installing new doors where required.
Qualifications
  • Experience working for an EN 16005 recognised automatic door company.
  • Experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of automatic door systems.
  • Valid EN 16005 certificate, or previously held one.
  • CSCS Card.
Expected Workload
  • 70% Automatic Doors
  • 25% Industrial Doors
  • 5% Gates/Barriers
  • Primarily service, maintenance, and repair with occasional installs (1–2 per month).
Remuneration
  • Hourly rate up to £24 per hour depending on experience and location.
  • Top earners can bring in over £70,000 per annum.
  • Home‑based, door‑to‑door pay.
  • Premium overtime rates: 1.5× after 9.5 hours per day; travel time considered overtime.
  • Saturday paid at 1.5×, Sunday paid at 2.0×.
  • Average annual commission of £3,000.
  • All power tools, hand tools, tablet, and a brand new professionally racked company van provided (personal use optional).
  • Call‑out rates: £15 per day when on call plus £15 per call plus a minimum of 3 hours double time; if over 3 hours, additional hours paid at double time; £150 per out‑of‑hours call if taken outside the on‑call time.
Training

Engineers will receive training in DHF Gate Diploma, DHF Door Diploma, and IPAF.
