Do you want to join a FTSE-listed, 5-star rated PLC house builder with a proud history of delivering high-quality, sustainable homes across the UK. With a strong presence in the East of England and a reputation for building thriving communities—not just houses—they’re committed to thoughtful design, placemaking, and responsible development.
Their Cambridgeshire office serves as a regional hub for developments across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, and Bedfordshire. They operate with the backing of a national business, but with the agility and culture of a local team. Their work is driven by strong values, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine desire to deliver well-designed homes people love to live in.
Due to sustained growth in their land pipeline and planning portfolio, we’re looking for an ambitious and capable Senior Town Planner to help them shape the next generation of developments.
About the Role
As a Senior Town Planner, you will play a strategic role in unlocking land and securing planning permission for residential-led developments. You’ll lead on a range of planning activities, from appraising land opportunities to managing full application processes, coordinating stakeholders, and influencing local policy.
You will work closely with internal teams including land, design, technical, and legal, as well as external consultants, local authorities, and community representatives.
- Deliver planning strategies for both short-term and strategic sites within the regional land pipeline.
- Prepare, submit, and manage all aspects of planning applications—from initial appraisal to decision.
- Engage with LPAs, stakeholders, and community groups to guide schemes through to approval.
- Provide professional planning advice to the Land & Development teams on risks, opportunities, and strategies.
- Monitor and influence emerging Local Plans, SHLAAs, and other relevant policy frameworks.
- Assist with appeals, public inquiries, and planning committee presentations where needed.
- Manage and brief external consultants to support planning applications.
- Represent the company at meetings, public exhibitions, and consultation events.
- Ensure compliance with relevant planning legislation, while aligning with the company’s commercial objectives and build targets.
We’re seeking a proactive and commercially minded planning professional who brings:
- A relevant degree and full MRTPI membership.
- At least 5 years\’ experience in town planning (housebuilding/development/consultancy/local authority).
- A deep understanding of UK planning law, housing policy, and development control procedures.
- Excellent project and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, especially for committee reports, briefings, and public speaking.
- A collaborative approach and ability to influence both internally and externally.
- Attention to detail with a drive to get results.
- A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across the region.
