Some technical departments are quiet. This isn't one of them. This PLC housebuilder runs a substantial East Midlands division with multiple live outlets at any one time, and the technical team sits right at the centre of how the business delivers. They're after a Senior Technical Manager who's comfortable operating in a structured, process-driven environment but who hasn't lost the ability to make a quick, sensible call when a site needs one.
The Role
You'll take ownership of the technical function across a cluster of developments, managing a small team of coordinators and acting as the senior technical voice in commercial, planning and design discussions. It's a role that sits between the detail and the bigger picture, you'll need to be as comfortable in a design team meeting as you are reviewing a drainage strategy line by line.
What you'll be doing
- Leading technical delivery across several live sites, from post-planning through to build completion.
- Managing and mentoring a team of technical coordinators, reviewing their output and developing their capability.
- Taking the lead role in RIBA stage design coordination with architects, structural engineers and services consultants.
- Overseeing Building Regulations and NHBC submissions across the patch, resolving technical queries as they arise.
- Managing discharge of planning conditions and liaising directly with local planning authorities
- Working closely with land, commercial and production teams to keep technical risk visible and managed.
- Reporting into the Technical Director on programme, risk and resourcing across the division.
What we're looking for
- Solid experience as a Technical Coordinator or Technical Manager within a volume or regional housebuilding environment.
- Confidence managing people as well as process, this role carries direct line management responsibility.
- Strong working knowledge of NHBC technical standards, Building Regulations and the planning conditions process.
- Someone who can hold their own in front of external consultants and internal directors alike.
- A relevant degree or professional qualification (RICS, CIOB or similar) is preferred.
