The Opportunity
A leading national housebuilder is growing its technical team in Yorkshire and is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its Leeds-based regional office. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer with residential development experience or a civil infrastructure background looking to move into housebuilding, to join a business with an active and expanding regional land pipeline.
You'll work across the full technical lifecycle of residential sites: taking outline designs from planning consent through to fully detailed, construction-ready packages, and supporting live sites through to build-out and adoption. You'll be part of a close-knit regional technical team, working alongside the Engineering Manager, external consultants, and site-based construction teams.
This role suits someone who enjoys variety, reviewing drainage calculations and design packages one day, out on site solving a live technical issue with a Site Manager the next.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, coordinate, and check civil engineering designs produced by external consultants, including roads, sewers, drainage (foul and surface water, including SuDS), earthworks, and foundation design
- Ensure all technical designs meet NHBC Standards, current Building Regulations, and Local Highway/Water Authority requirements
- Support the preparation of technical information for planning submissions and the discharge of planning conditions
- Assist with the preparation and progression of S38, S104, and S278 Section Agreements
- Liaise directly with Local Planning Authorities, Highway Authorities, and statutory undertakers on technical queries
- Provide technical support to site-based teams, helping resolve engineering issues during construction
- Carry out site inspections to monitor compliance with approved designs and identify issues early
- Support the adoption process by managing snagging lists and coordinating remedial works with site teams
- Maintain accurate technical records, drawings, and correspondence for each development.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or working towards, with relevant industry experience)
- Experience within residential housebuilding, groundworks, or civil infrastructure
- Working knowledge of drainage design principles, including SuDS
- Understanding of the Section Agreement and adoption process
- Comfortable using Civils 3D or Microdrainage.
- AutoCAD
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with external authorities and internal site teams
- Full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel to sites across Yorkshire
Desirable:
- Previous experience with a national or regional housebuilder
- Working towards Chartered/Incorporated status (ICE or CIHT)
- Experience with drainage modelling software (e.g. MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow)
What's On Offer
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- Car allowance
- Annual bonus scheme
- Contributory pension
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Private healthcare option
- Staff discount on new build homes
- Structured career progression into Senior Engineer and Engineering Manager roles
