A leading UK housebuilder is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Estimator with experience in land appraisals to join their dynamic team located in south east london. This role is crucial to the company’s growth strategy, combining traditional estimating duties with the essential task of evaluating potential land acquisitions for residential development.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for appropriately evaluating the cost of a project, and evaluating the cost to take on that project. The Estimator will be familiar with our competitive advantages as an organization and will be able to communicate those to our benefit throughout the bidding process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing accurate cost estimates for residential construction projects, from initial feasibility through to project completion.
- Conduct comprehensive land appraisals, assessing the viability of potential development sites, including performing financial modeling and cost analysis.
- Collaborate with the land acquisition team to identify opportunities and provide detailed financial assessments to support strategic decision-making.
- Analyze project specifications, architectural drawings, and engineering reports to prepare detailed cost plans and budgets.
- Maintain knowledge of competitive advantages in the industry to aid bidding process
- Assisting in the preparation of tender documents, contracts, and procurement strategies will be a key part of the role, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Monitor project costs, identify potential risks, and recommend strategies to maintain profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with internal teams, including project managers, architects, and quantity surveyors, to ensure accurate and timely project delivery.
- Staying updated on industry trends, market conditions, and material costs will be essential to ensure competitive and realistic pricing.
- Support the continuous improvement of estimating and appraisal processes, contributing to the overall success of the company.
Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will have proven experience as an Estimator, with a strong background in land appraisals within the residential construction sector.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (essential)
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions are essential.
- The candidate should possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
- Proficiency in estimating software, financial modeling tools, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is required.
