As a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Community SACT, you will provide clinical leadership, specialist nursing care expert coordination for people receiving systemic anticancer therapy across the region. You will work directly with patients and whānau to provide assessment, toxicity management, education, and ongoing support throughout their cancer journey.
This role is highly autonomous and deeply impactful; you will support patient flow and safety, act as a clinical expert across multiple tumour streams, including haematology, while contributing to service development. With your advanced SACT knowledge, you will guide both patients and clinicians, ensuring high-quality, culturally responsive care across community and hospital settings. This is an opportunity to shape oncology nursing practice while making a meaningful difference every day.
You will work in partnership with our Oncology Service at Hawkes Bay Hospital, working closely with our clinical team of senior nursing team across outpatient and inpatient clinical teams, collaborating with oncologists, haematologists, nursing teams, allied health, administrators, and wider multidisciplinary teams. Your work will extend across primary and secondary care, connecting with community providers, regional cancer services, and national networks. You will be an experienced, confident and highly skilled oncology nurse who is passionate about advancing cancer care in the community. You will bring:
- Current NZ Nursing Council registration and APC.
- Postgraduate qualification (PGDip preferred) and working toward a clinical Masters, or equivalent experience with willingness to complete required study.
- Workplace Assessor certification (NZ Unit Standard 4098 or 30421).
- At least 5 years clinical cancer nursing experience.
- Advanced SACT knowledge, including management of complex toxicities.
- Excellent communication, assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and autonomously in specialist practice.
- A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and culturally safe care.
- Experience in policy development, audits, and quality improvement.
- Familiarity with service-wide cancer pathway coordination.
