The predicted salary is between 30000 - 42000 £ per year.

We are looking for skilled MDU cablers, splicers, and testers to join our team. The ideal candidates will be responsible for installing, splicing, and testing fibre optic cables in multiple dwelling units (MDUs) for FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) projects. Experience working with providers such as Openreach and Hyperoptic is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and route fibre optic cables within MDUs.
  • Follow schematics and network designs to install cables from the point of entry to individual units.
  • Secure and label cables to ensure neat and organized installations.
  • Work efficiently with other tradespeople, such as electricians, during installations.
  • Splice and terminate fibre optic cables, including both fusion splicing and mechanical splicing techniques.
  • Prepare and maintain splicing records and ensure proper labeling for all spliced cables.
  • Install enclosures, patch panels, and termination boxes, as required.
  • Conduct continuity and optical testing of fibre optic cables.
  • Test installed fibre optic systems to ensure proper functioning, using equipment like OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), power meters, and light sources.
  • Identify and diagnose any faults or issues in the fibre optic cabling.
  • Document test results and prepare reports for project records.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a fibre cabler, splicer, or tester in the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience with MDU fibre installations is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of working with network operators such as Openreach and Hyperoptic.
  • Familiarity with fusion splicing, termination processes, and testing techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and network diagrams.
  • Experience with fibre optic testing tools, including OTDR, power meters, and light sources.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel between sites.
  • Relevant accreditations, such as NRSWA, PIA, or CSCS card (preferred).

  • Strong technical knowledge of fibre optic networks and cabling practices.
  • Good attention to detail, ensuring installations meet required standards.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
