Position Overview:

This position is responsible for providing tax reporting and compliance (corporate and VAT) for entities based in the UK and Ireland. This is a broad role, requiring a combination of a high level of technical knowledge, good organizational skills and an ability to liaise across various business and support groups to achieve a variety of aims and objectives. The role is also responsible for ensuring all reporting and compliance obligations are met and therefore it will be necessary to maintain a strong internal financial control environment to ensure that all deliverables are accurate and submitted on a timely basis. This position involves working alongside other UK and Toronto based Finance teams.

Fundamental Competencies:

  • A working knowledge of UK or Irish corporate tax
  • A working knowledge of VAT, in particular partial exemption for financial services
  • Outstanding analytical skills with an inquisitive mindset to identify and swiftly resolve issues
  • Proven organizational and multi-tasking skills to be able to juggle competing priorities
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills to provide guidance to the local and Head Office finance teams on specific issues
  • The development and maintenance of good relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to effectively communicate recommendations
  • Ability to motivate and inspire other team members in line with the TD Framework
  • Excellent excel, word and power point skills to support the high quality deliverables required

Key Deliverables:

  • Statutory Reporting: Assist with the tax notes for all the UK & Irish entities, including reviewing draft financial statements to ensure accuracy of numbers and appropriateness of financial statement disclosures. Provide expertise in incorporating any tax disclosure requirements as new businesses/products are booked in the local entities. Provide expertise in incorporating changes in tax reporting standards.
  • Financial Control: Preparation of tax provisions for the month end, quarter end and year-end close process for UK and Irish entities, explaining variances and dealing with queries from London/Toronto Finance and Tax teams. Maintain an up-to-date awareness of changes to UK and Irish taxation and ensure that the local Finance teams have adequate infrastructure in place to remain compliant with the rules at all times. Ensure annual review of procedures for completeness and accuracy.
  • Tax Accounting and Reporting: Prepare all journal entries relating to corporation tax and VAT. Prepare draft corporation tax returns for all UK and Irish entities and respond to any questions from external advisors. Calculate and ensure all tax payments are made on timely basis. Prepare UK and Irish VAT returns, including partial exemption calculation. Prepare the UK Bank Levy balance sheet. Collate information to assist with responding to enquiries from tax authorities.
  • Project work: Own ad hoc specified local and global projects and deliver them within demanding timelines whilst maintaining a high standard of technical accuracy.

Person specification:

The role will suit a highly motivated and ambitious individual with excellent technical & excel skills with a strong desire to learn and develop their career in the Financial Services industry. In addition, the individual will need to show experience and key skills in driving existing process improvements and be able to set up robust processes to address ongoing changes in the nature of the business. Qualified Accountant or Tax Advisor with 5+ years of relevant experience.
