The DCS Operations Engineer provides hands-on operational support across data centre and infrastructure environments, ensuring the effective installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of IT hardware and cabling. The role is responsible for executing data centre changes and operational activities in line with approved processes and controls, supporting project delivery and business-as-usual operations within a regulated environment. This includes working closely with global teams, vendors, and infrastructure stakeholders to ensure high-quality, compliant delivery of physical infrastructure services.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Execute hands-on data centre activities including racking, stacking, cabling, patching, and hardware installation.
- Perform device decommissioning, removals, and infrastructure clean-up in line with change controls.
- Support hardware lifecycle activities including builds, replacements, and upgrades.
- Ensure all activities adhere to health and safety and site-specific operational standards.
- Deliver work against approved ServiceNow requests, change tickets, and work orders.
- Review and validate build documentation, including IBOMs and build sheets, prior to execution.
- Participate in site surveys to confirm space, power, and cabling requirements before implementation.
- Support Go/No-Go checks and implementation coordination with stakeholders and vendors.
- Install and maintain structured cabling (copper and fibre) within data centre and office environments.
- Perform patching activities across network, end-user, and infrastructure equipment.
- Validate connectivity and ensure accurate labelling and documentation of all installations.
- Work closely with external vendors to support installations and site-based activities.
- Coordinate on-site work execution, ensuring vendors meet agreed scope and standards.
- Communicate effectively with engineering, network, and project teams across locations.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, including photographic evidence and documentation updates.
- Ensure all activities are auditable and aligned to internal governance standards.
- Support inventory and asset tracking processes.
Skills & Experience
- Essential: Proven experience in data centre operations or infrastructure support roles.
- Hands-on experience with hardware installation (servers, network devices, storage).
- Structured cabling (copper and fibre patching).
- Device build, deployment, and decommissioning.
- Experience working with ticketing and change management systems (e.g. ServiceNow).
- Strong understanding of data centre environments (rack layouts, power, cooling considerations).
- Ability to work independently in a hands-on, operational environment.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to process and control.
- Desirable: Experience supporting office moves, relocations, or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of network devices, telephony systems, or VDI environments.
- Experience working in a financial services or regulated environment.
- Health and Safety certifications (e.g. ECS, IPAF, First Aid, Working at Height).
