We are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Mechanic to join our client’s established waste management and recycling operation in the Musselburgh area. Our client operates a fleet of HGVs and plant machinery and is looking for a skilled mechanic to carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs to keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections, diagnostics and repairs on HGVs and plant machinery.
- Complete routine servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Diagnose and rectify vehicle faults and defects.
- Carry out MOT preparation, inspections and post-repair checks.
- Ensure vehicles and plant meet all required legal and company standards.
- Carry out preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and downtime.
- Identify mechanical issues and complete repairs efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of all work completed.
- Record parts and materials used during repairs.
- Follow all health & safety and environmental procedures.
- Work closely with the maintenance and operations teams to maintain fleet reliability.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop and working environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic, HGV Technician or in a similar heavy vehicle mechanical role.
- Strong knowledge of HGV maintenance, servicing, diagnostics and repair.
- Experience working on commercial vehicles and/or plant machinery.
- Relevant mechanical qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Good understanding of vehicle safety and legal compliance requirements.
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe working practices.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Previous waste, recycling, refuse or local authority fleet experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
