The Role
This is an Engineering role in the Mobile/App track within a Platforms context, focused on full replatforming of a consumer app and establishment of a durable app engineering function.
The technical environment centres on React Native as the target cross-platform foundation, replacing legacy implementation.
The role requires strong command of mobile architecture, native integration where needed, delivery pipelines, and production operations.
It also requires close integration with cloud-native backend and platform services to ensure secure, reliable, and observable mobile experiences.
The domain context demands practical leadership through architectural transition, with clear governance of engineering quality, security, release readiness, and long-term maintainability.
Your responsibilities:
Lead and deliver a clear replatforming strategy for the consumer app, with phased milestones, measurable outcomes, and active risk management.
Provide evidence-based architecture and technology recommendations to the Head of Platform-App, balancing speed, quality, maintainability, and commercial impact.
Establish and embed an app technical governance process covering architecture decisions, engineering standards, security controls, quality gates, and release approvals.
Co-establish the new app function with the Head of Platform-App, including operating model, team interfaces, capability expectations, and delivery accountability.
Drive end-to-end migration execution from current-state platform to target-state mobile stack, ensuring minimal customer disruption.
Align delivery across Product, Design, QA, Platform, and backend teams so priorities, dependencies, and sequencing are transparent and executable.
Set and enforce standards for mobile non-functional quality, including performance, reliability, offline behaviour, accessibility, and observability.
Improve delivery throughput through robust CI/CD, automated testing, release discipline, and clear incident-learning loops.
Lead technical decision forums and governance checkpoints that improve consistency and reduce late-stage defects or rework.
Provide concise, director-level progress reporting on transformation status, delivery risks, mitigation plans, and decisions required.
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
Significant experience leading large-scale mobile engineering initiatives, including ownership of architecture, delivery, and quality outcomes.
Strong hands-on expertise in React Native and cross-platform app architecture in production environments.
Demonstrable success delivering major app replatforming or migration programmes with controlled transition risk.
Experience defining and implementing practical engineering governance that improves decision quality without creating unnecessary process overhead.
Deep knowledge of iOS and Android engineering fundamentals, including performance optimisation, secure coding, accessibility, and testability.
Proven ownership of mobile build and release pipelines, including code signing, environment controls, and App Store/Google Play release management.
Strong stakeholder leadership with the ability to advise senior leaders through clear technical recommendations and trade-off analysis.
Experience setting up or maturing engineering teams/functions, including standards, roles, and collaboration models.
Ability to integrate mobile delivery with cloud-native backend/platform capabilities and service-oriented architecture.
High fluency in agentic, AI-accelerated engineering practices, including critical review, testing, and validation of AI-generated outputs before merge or release.
Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
Direct migration experience from .NET MAUI to React Native in a live consumer product.
Prior experience establishing a new app or mobile function during organizational transformation.
Strong knowledge of feature flagging, phased rollout, and progressive migration patterns.
Experience in high-scale consumer apps where reliability and release quality have material businesss impact.
Familiarity with modern mobile observability tooling for crash analysis, performance monitoring, and operational diagnostics.
Experience building reusable AI prompt/spec patterns to accelerate engineering delivery with robust quality controls.
