The Role: As a Network Engineer, you will design, implement, and support secure, resilient, and high-performing network infrastructure across IT and OT environments. Working within the Cyber Security and Zero Trust Architecture programmes, you will deliver network transformation initiatives, enhance network security, and ensure reliable connectivity across critical business and operational systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain, optimize, and modernize network services while supporting compliance, resilience, and operational excellence.
Your responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise and OT network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and cloud connectivity solutions.
- Deliver network components for Cyber Security and Zero Trust Architecture programmes, ensuring adherence to security and governance standards.
- Configure and support routing, switching, firewall, VPN, and network segmentation technologies across complex environments.
- Lead network transformation and infrastructure upgrade projects from design through implementation and operational handover.
- Monitor network health, performance, and availability, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimise service disruption.
- Implement high-availability, resiliency, and disaster recovery solutions to support business-critical services.
- Collaborate with security, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure secure and efficient network integration.
- Support secure IT/OT convergence through industrial DMZs and controlled connectivity between operational and enterprise networks.
- Produce and maintain network documentation, configuration standards, diagrams, and CMDB records.
- Provide technical leadership, troubleshooting expertise, and governance support for network-related incidents, changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Your Profile:
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale enterprise network infrastructures.
- Strong expertise in routing and switching technologies, including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, HSRP/VRRP, and VXLAN.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, or Fortinet network security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, NAC, and IDS/IPS solutions.
- Solid understanding of Zero Trust Architecture principles, network segmentation, micro-segmentation, and identity-aware networking.
- Experience with cloud networking in AWS and/or Microsoft Azure, including ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, VPCs, and Virtual Networks.
- Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management (IPAM), DNSSEC, and enterprise network services.
- Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and management platforms such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Cisco DNA Centre, ThousandEyes, SNMP, and NetFlow.
- Understanding of network resilience, disaster recovery, failover mechanisms, and performance optimisation techniques.
- Experience supporting Operational Technology (OT) environments, industrial networks, and secure IT/OT connectivity models.
- Excellent stakeholder management, documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills, with experience working within regulated or critical infrastructure environments.
Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
- Experience supporting Water Utilities, Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), Energy, or other regulated industry environments.
- Industry certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, Palo Alto PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, AWS Advanced Networking, or Azure Network Engineer Associate.
- Experience delivering Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), network micro-segmentation, and identity-driven security initiatives.
- Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) security frameworks, Industrial Control Systems (ICS), and SCADA network environments.
- Exposure to cloud security architectures, hybrid networking, and multi-cloud connectivity solutions.
- Experience working within cyber transformation, infrastructure modernization, or digital transformation programmes.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based service management, change control, incident management, and governance processes.
- Experience with network automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Python, or Terraform.
