The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated Apprentice GSE Painter/Prepper to join our workshop team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in vehicle preparation and painting for Ground Support Equipment (GSE), while working towards a recognised qualification. You’ll be trained by experienced professionals and play a key role in ensuring high-quality paint finishes, all while maintaining health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with cleaning, sanding, and preparing surfaces for painting
• Support masking, fitting, and stripping of vehicle components
• Learn to mix and prepare paints in line with manufacturer guidelines
• Participate in painting tasks under the supervision of qualified staff
• Help plan painting schedules and support workshop coordination
• Follow COSHH and safety requirements for storage and use of substances
• Maintain tools and report any faults to the Workshop Supervisor
• Complete job cards and workshop documentation via SAP and iPad/tablets
• Keep workspaces clean and organised
• Shadow experienced technicians and progressively take on more responsibility
What We Are Looking For:
• A strong interest in vehicle/bodywork painting or a related trade
• Minimum GCSE Grade 4 or C in Maths, English & ICT
• Good attention to detail and willingness to follow guidance
• Enthusiastic, safety-conscious, and ready to learn
• Drivers Licence would be advantageous
• Please note: This is a supervised apprenticeship role—independent working is not permitted until fully trained
Knowledge and Skills to Develop:
• Safe preparation and painting of vehicles and equipment
• Knowledge of single and two-pack paint systems
• Time management and planning skills
• Communication and teamwork

Training and Progression:
• Work towards a recognised apprenticeship standard (e.g. Vehicle Damage Paint Technician – Level 3)
• Participate in classroom, workshop, and e-learning training
• Gain awareness of ISO9001, ISO14001, and safety legislation
• Progressively take on more technical responsibilities as skills develop
