Role Description

This is a full‑time, on‑site Shuttering Joiner role based in Wakefield. The Shuttering Joiner will construct, install, and dismantle formwork for concrete structures such as foundations, walls, columns, and slabs. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting drawings, measuring and setting out work areas, assembling and securing shutters, and ensuring accurate alignment and level. The role involves working with timber and other formwork materials, using hand tools and power tools safely, and coordinating with site supervisors, engineers, and other trades. The Shuttering Joiner will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area, following all health and safety regulations, and meeting project deadlines and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong carpentry skills, including experience with shuttering/formwork and structural woodwork.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools (e.g., saws, hammers, levels, measuring tools) safely and accurately.
  • Experience with power tools commonly used in formwork and concrete construction.
  • Knowledge of framing and formwork assembly for walls, columns, slabs, and other concrete elements.
  • Experience in finish carpentry or accurate finishing and stripping of formwork is beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and set out work to specified dimensions.
  • Good understanding of construction site health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Previous experience as a Shuttering Joiner or Formwork Carpenter on civil or structural projects.
  • Relevant trade qualification, NVQ, or equivalent experience in carpentry or formwork (preferred).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, follow instructions, and meet project timelines in varying site conditions.
