What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced educator with a passion for supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and a proven ability to work with high‑needs students in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable, and confident managing a diverse group of learners.
Qualifications & Experience
- AET/CERT ED/PGCE or other relevant teaching qualifications (Essential)
- Maths Grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills level 2 (Essential)
- Assessor qualification (Essential)
- SEN qualifications (Desirable)
- Experience teaching learners with various abilities or learning needs (Essential)
- Experience working with learners presenting learning differences (Essential)
- Knowledge of EHCPs (Desirable)
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
As the Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will deliver Entry Level 1‑3 and Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills Maths in small group settings (up to 12 learners). Responsibilities include planning and teaching maths lessons, differentiating activities, marking, maintaining records, ensuring learners progress, preparing portfolios, and collaborating with the Quality Assurance team.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
- Engage and build rapport with all young people
- Plan, prepare, and teach lessons at Entry Levels and Levels 1 & 2 for Maths Functional Skills
- Create engaging schemes of work that demonstrate sequencing and progression
- Differentiate lesson plans and resources to meet individual learner needs
- Track learner progress using appropriate tracking systems
- Provide engaging sessions meeting individual needs
- Conduct 1:1 progress reviews of qualifications and personal skills
- Manage behaviour issues in line with policy, with support from the Centre Manager
- Implement inclusion and equal opportunity policies
- Use learning support assistants, visiting speakers, and technology effectively
- Organise and implement trips and events for learning
- Participate in events/open days and OFSTED inspections where required
Monitoring and Continual Improvement
- Follow the education inspection framework
- Undertake regular CPD and record it using company documents
- Pursue further qualifications as part of personal development
- Embed Safeguarding and Prevent in delivery and raise issues according to policy
- Attend monthly curriculum review meetings and standardisation meetings
- Manage ongoing administrative tasks related to TCHC systems
- Collaborate with the Quality team to meet high delivery expectations
- Address complaints in line with the Complaints Policy
- Reflect on practice, evaluate and improve teaching for learner success
