Summary
TCH Resource has been engaged by a high growth (20% yoy) food manufacturer to help recruit a Senior Procurement Manager (SPM). This leader will play an essential role in optimizing the direct material supply chain. Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, this position will play a vital role in aligning procurement strategies with the forecasted production plan to ensure the timely delivery of direct materials. This position will be responsible for creating a strategy for inbound raw materials, building supplier relationships, negotiating favorable contracts and ensuring execution of contracts. The SPM will be responsible for maintaining optimal inventory levels, adhering to quality and product specifications, placing orders, tracking inbound shipments, with a heavy focus on produce. The SPM will design and manage inventory strategies–safety stock levels and storage plans–for direct materials, ensuring manufacturing plants have sufficient materials to support forecasted production.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a sourcing strategy to mitigate risk and ensure availability of raw materials and
ingredients.
- Submit purchase orders, coordinate deliveries to production facilities, ensuring sufficient
inventory of fresh ingredients to cover production schedules and sales forecasts
- Analyze and review production forecasts regularly; recommend adjustments based on changes to inventory levels and sales and production performance trends. Actively participate in monthly
- S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) meetings
- Maintain and update spreadsheets to track direct material forecasts, inventory levels, purchase order requirements, and financial projections
- Monitor and analyze market conditions and crop rotation for seasonality, quality implications, including pricing trends, lead times, and supply availability
- Support New Product Development with ingredient samples, specifications, approval, and
procurement
- Be an integral member of the ERP implementation team, managing the Purchasing and
Inventory module decisions
- This position will ensure direct materials meet quality specifications and will work with
suppliers to resolve quality issues
- Travel will be required to visit suppliers and production facilities
- Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed
Skills/Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations, Business, or related field
- 5-8 years’ experience required in procurement and sourcing of produce or fresh ingredients
within the food or CPG Industry
- Experience negotiating supplier contracts and agreements, preferably with rotating and
seasonal crops
- Experience with ERP systems and procurement software, preferably at a food or beverage
company
- Experience managing inventory, and interacting with self-manufacturing sites and co-packers
- Advanced Excel skills required and computer proficiency in all MS Office Applications
- Self-starter with a bias for action, independent thinker, comfortable making sound decisions
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques
- Excellent communication and team-building skills, with the ability to build and maintain
relationships with internal and external stakeholders
