Attendance Officer at Tces National Online School in City of London

City of London Full-Time On-site
TCES National Online School

About this Role

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Attendance Officer to join our National Online School team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing daily attendance processes, maintaining accurate statutory attendance records, following up pupil absences and providing data to support attendance monitoring and improvement. The role is essential in ensuring that all pupils are accounted for, safeguarding concerns are identified promptly and appropriate action is taken to improve attendance and punctuality.

The TCES National Online School provides therapeutic, virtual education for pupils with complex needs, including neurodiverse pupils and those experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA). Many of our pupils have experienced lengthy gaps in formal education and face barriers to accessing learning. Our approach provides a supportive, flexible and nurturing environment, helping pupils re-engage with education and achieve their full potential.

As Attendance Officer, you will play a key role in working collaboratively with pupils, parents/carers, school staff, Local Authorities, social services and other external professionals. You will monitor attendance patterns, investigate unexplained absences, ensure registers are completed accurately and support the implementation of the school's Attendance Toolkit. You will also produce and interpret attendance data, identifying trends and escalating persistent attendance concerns to support effective intervention and improved pupil outcomes.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:

  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively and professionally with parents/carers and external agencies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when maintaining attendance records, registers and statutory data.
  • The ability to produce, review and interpret data, identify attendance patterns and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • A proactive and persistent approach to following up unexplained absences and supporting improvements in attendance and punctuality.
  • The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with pupils, parents/carers, colleagues and external professionals.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of promptly following up pupil absences to ensure children and young people are safe.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • A commitment to inclusion and an understanding of the barriers to education faced by pupils with complex needs, including neurodiverse pupils and those experiencing EBSA.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow established policies, procedures and reporting requirements.

Experience in an attendance, education administration, pastoral or school support role would be advantageous, particularly where this has involved attendance monitoring, data management or liaison with families and external agencies.

In return we offer:

  • Competitive salary and terms and conditions.
  • An opportunity to make a real difference and join a leading provider of specialist education, directly contributing towards positive outcomes for pupils with SEMH and ASC.
  • Excellent CPD opportunities, with all staff provided with an individual Learning & Development Plan to support career development and options to take progressive Ofqual-registered Level 3-5 qualifications in Therapeutic Education.
  • A comprehensive induction process, including support for all pupil-facing staff to achieve the Level 3 Award in Therapeutic Education and Group Process.
  • Regular half-termly staff wellbeing days.
  • A range of employee support and wellbeing benefits, including an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), counselling, contributions towards medical costs and access to an exclusive rewards platform.

TCES, NOS and Great Minds are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expect all staff to share this commitment. The appointment is subject to all relevant checks, including references, medical clearance and a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

We are an equal opportunity employer.
