Associate Instructor - Welding in Manchester

Position Overview

Classification: Full‑time exempt

Office Location: TCAT - McMinnville, Coffee County Industrial Service Center, 91 Volunteer Pkwy, Manchester, TN 37355

Hours: 7:00 am–3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, or as needed to fulfill duties of the position.

Salary: $50,894 – $61,074

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Certificate or diploma in instructional area or equivalent training with credentials in related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in the welding field within the last five (5) years.
• Ability to teach GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), SMAW (STICK), oxy‑acetylene fusion, flux‑core welding, flame cutting, brazing, soldering, and related processes.
• Familiarity with blueprint reading, welding symbols, metallurgy, fitting and fabrication.
• Commitment to utilizing technology in teaching/learning and staying current with instructional technologies.
• Commitment to maintaining program accreditation(s).
• Strong customer service skills with effective oral and written communication for conveying information and presentation.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office programs, audio/visual equipment, and software.
• Ability to multitask with good organization and planning skills.
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in higher education.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with multiple local businesses, employers, industry, workforce development agencies, secondary and post‑secondary institutions.

Key Responsibilities – Essential Job Functions

• Monitor and evaluate student progress, attendance, and grades.
• Complete and submit required reports in a timely manner.
• Apply a multi‑method approach to enhance student understanding of materials, including demonstrations, lectures, hands‑on activities and live works to prepare students for employment in the welding industry.
• Determine which teaching methods best serve individual student needs, interests, and learning ability.
• Develop accurate and objective standards to measure learning or administer testing or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension has been achieved.
• Teach all courses within the Welding curriculum.
• Maintain student records for grades and attendance and enter into Banner system.
• Build and maintain relationships with area employers to facilitate the referral and employment of career and technical students.
• Cooperate with outside agencies; work with program advisory committees; conduct visits to business and industry; establish and maintain good public relations with the school’s general public.
• Work in cooperation with other departments and the community to enhance employment opportunities for students.
• Conduct surveys, record and report on program graduates.
• Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public.
• Ensure that all activities are conducted within established guidelines of FERPA.
• Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.
• Hold program advisory board meetings once a year and maintain meeting minutes.
• Participate in professional development and growth annually.
• Assist with student placement and follow‑up information.
• Assist with student recruitment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Background Check

Background checks will be completed on all new hires. Instructors will be asked to sign a background release authorizing TCAT – McMinnville to complete a background check which will include a Sex Offender Registry, County Criminal & Federal Criminal check.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions (ADA Requirements)

Walking, climbing, bending and stooping. Work performed in office, testing center and classroom environments. Position requires the use of a computer. Sedentary work – walking or standing to a significant degree; sitting for brief periods of time; ability to bend and stoop; use body members (arms, hands, fingers).

Salary and Employment Documents

Salary is commensurate with experience, education and training according to Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines. Current federal law requires identification and eligibility verification prior to employment. Only U.S. citizens and authorized aliens may be employed. A criminal/financial background check will be required for selected applicants.
