Nottingham – Accounts – Full time – Permanent

We have an exciting opportunity for an Accountant to join our team in Nottingham. We welcome applications from Senior up to Manager level. Previous practice experience is essential and must complement our existing team. We are looking for ambitious, results‑orientated individuals who strive to meet the highest standards in their work and provide a first‑class service to our clients. You will be technically competent, a team‑oriented people person and must have a desire to develop yourself and others.

Responsibilities

  • Control on an annual basis the professional work required on a range of accounts jobs ensuring that all internal, client and legislative deadlines are met.
  • Ensure the firm’s standard processes are used in the production of accounts work in all aspects.
  • Maintain technical standards at all times and must be technically proficient to answer questions from the team.
  • Manage jobs within your portfolio and the staff working on those jobs, planning and reviewing work to be undertaken and being responsible for each job’s review and progress through the practice.
  • Use the work planner to record and staff jobs.
  • Keep client‑handling partners fully informed on the monthly progress of the work areas you are responsible for.
  • Review the work of others, understand risks and issues, and ensure complete information is obtained to make effective decisions.
  • Provide practical advice and solutions to clients and colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain smooth relationships when difficult circumstances arise. Develop a culture of trust with both the team and clients.
  • Mentor, counsel, coach and support those of less experience, building morale, personal confidence and encouraging others to give their best performance.

About You

  • Ideally ACA / ACCA qualified.
  • Relevant experience of working in an accountancy practice.
  • Good accounting, VAT & tax knowledge, particularly corporation tax.
  • Experience with Iris & MWP beneficial.
  • Proactive and energetic in every task undertaken.
  • Seeks direction from others when appropriate, achieves objectives, drives feedback, copes well with pressure and shows genuine interest.
  • Strong desire to exceed expectations and drive own career.
  • Confident when dealing with negative situations and difficult conversations.
  • Adopts a calm and assured approach, makes time for people, shares knowledge.
  • Ability to juggle a number of jobs, demonstrating excellent time‑management skills to meet all deadlines and expectations.
  • Provides the best possible solution to problem solving and has the courage to make a difficult decision quickly.
  • Creates a culture of continuous improvement, convinces others to have ideas and encourages and enthuses them to develop imaginative solutions to difficult problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Shows initiative, exercises judgement, takes ownership of tasks from start to finish.
