Our office in Sussex is looking for a Bookkeeping professional to join their team.
The role involves overseeing a diverse client portfolio spanning multiple sectors, including limited companies, charities, and agricultural businesses.
Responsibilities include day-to-day bookkeeping, control account reconciliations, and the preparation of monthly or quarterly management accounts.
Familiarity with cloud-based accounting software is a key part of the role, not just on the bookkeeping front, but also potentially with provision of training and support to clients, both remotely and in person.
Strong organisational skills are essential, as you'll be managing your own workload, addressing client queries as they arise, and assisting other departments such as accounts, audit, and payroll when required.
Key responsibilities of a Bookkeeper will include
- Preparing monthly/quarterly management accounts.
- Preparing and filing VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC guidelines.
- Provision of software support and providing training to clients on various cloud-based packages through structured sessions and bookkeeping skills as required.
- Attending client premises to undertake bookkeeping role on-site which includes preparation of management information for clients.
- Dealing with client queries as and when they arise.
About you
- 2+ years of experience in an accountancy practice
- Capable and driven accounting professional, ideally AAT qualified or part qualified or qualified through experience.
- Confident and competent using a wide range of cloud-based accounting and bookkeeping platforms, including Xero (Xero certified is desirable), Quick Books, Sage, Dext and Fathom.
- Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and proactive attitude.
- Excellent numerical skills with the ability to understand, evaluate, and interpret financial data to support client decision-making.
- Previous experience of preparation of management accounts, VAT returns and filing.
- Team/ collaborative player with strong work ethic and drive.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to work off-site at local client premises where applicable.
- Support with inter-department (accounts/audit/payroll) queries and tasks as required.
- Ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good organisational skills and time management.
- Valid driving licence and own transport.
