The Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer at TBS Engineering, you will be responsible for the electrical design of a wide range of standard and special-purpose machines for the lead-acid battery industry. You will take technical ownership of assigned projects, working closely with mechanical, software, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver robust, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs. This role offers the opportunity to take technical leadership, contribute to complex automation projects, and play a key role in delivering innovative engineering solutions to global customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of standard and special-purpose machinery, including lead casting machines, plate feeders and stackers, battery assembly and test machines, and robotic automation cells.
- Take technical lead responsibility on assigned projects, as agreed with the Controls System Manager and Technical Director.
- Produce detailed electrical designs in line with internal sales documentation and customer specifications (SSOW), including:
- Control panel and cabinet layouts
- Bills of materials (BOMs)
- Electrical design and compliance documentation
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within the machinery or automation industry.
- Qualified to a minimum of HNC in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of machine safety standards, including BS EN ISO 13849-1 & 2 and BS EN 60204-1.
- Experience in risk assessments and machine safety compliance (TÜV certification desirable).
- Proficient in electrical CAD systems; AutoCAD Electrical highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacture, standardisation, and cost control.
- Proven ability to produce and interpret detailed electrical drawings and documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Confident, proactive approach with the ability to take technical ownership.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong IT skills and ability to manage design data effectively.
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to work to tight deadlines.
- Willingness to undertake ongoing professional development.
- Full passport and willingness to travel internationally on occasion.
Training will be provided on the company’s IFS (MRP) data control system.
