Working hours: Monday to Friday 06:00 to 15:30 and every other Sunday 08:00 to 14:00. Driver will be eligible to receive a quarterly bonus up to £500 after passing the probation. A manual driving licence is required.
The purpose of this role is to deliver our goods in full, on time and in good condition taking all precautions to avoid damage or delay; to provide an efficient and courteous service to our customers.
Key Tasks/ Responsibilities:
- To keep a clean and tidy appearance at all times.
- To wear any staff uniform and name tag that may be provided.
- Ensuring vehicles are mechanically sound, clean and legally roadworthy by carrying out daily walk around checks at the beginning and end of each shift on each one of the vehicles used.
- To never take a vehicle to public road if not in a roadworthy condition.
- Performing basic repairs and maintenance in the event of accident or breakdown while in transit.
- Report any vehicle problems promptly to Transport Supervisor.
- Report any accidents immediately to Transport Supervisor.
- Ensure that you are familiar with Company procedures in case of an accident.
- To report to the Traffic Office of any delays or accidents.
- Report any changes to the points on your Driving Licence immediately and give a new photocopy to Transport Manager.
- At no time to use the Company vehicle for private use.
- Check all items for delivery before loading and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Load own vehicle.
- Safely securing heavy loads and large goods for transport.
- Deliver goods in accordance with instructions received taking note of any special instructions for particular customers.
- To drive carefully and with due consideration to other road users.
- Not to drive in bus lanes, break speed limits, block restricted junctions or park illegally where this can be reasonably avoided.
- To avoid getting a Parking Ticket wherever possible.
- To avoid breakages either when loading or unloading or unsafe stacking or caused by the manner of your driving. To use internal straps to secure products when necessary.
- To keep the company’s mobile phone switched on to receive messages and to observe the Company’s Hands Free Policy.
- To always be polite and helpful to the customer.
- To communicate to Transport Manager any problems or queries from customers immediately they are received and to seek instructions.
- To get a signed Proof of Delivery from the customer on delivery.
- To notify the Transport Supervisors or Planners immediately of any frozen returns and take instructions.
- To report to Transport Supervisors at the end of your day’s work.
- To ensure that your Driver Tacho Cards is downloaded daily.
- To complete a Returned Goods sheet for all items returned and to put with goods in Returns Area.
- To assist in the warehouse as instructed by the Transport Supervisor or Transport Manager.
- Working with Technical Dept. accountable for all Food Safety, Legality and Hygiene matters in the company.
- To comply and enforce company policies and procedures to ensure food quality/ safety checks and paperwork are completed as per document requirements.
- To adhere to good storage & distribution processes.
- To ensure compliance with Driver’s Hours Regulation and Road Safety Regulation.
- To ensure compliance with the Working Time Directive Regulation.
- To keep full records of all work, rest and driving activity by using logbooks or digital tachograph cards (HGV Applicable).
- To report immediately to the Transport Manager if legality is breached by any action taken by you.
- To notify the Transport Manager immediately of any points endorsed in your license even if these relate to offences committed while driving your own personal vehicle or other vehicle that is not operated by the company.
