Our Operatives play a pivotal role in maintaining our stunning grounds and successfully completing aspects of the ongoing maintenance throughout Moness, ensuring the high standards associated with our resort grounds are achieved and maintained whilst being respectful of both our guests and the wider environment. You deliver outstanding performance, enhancing the natural environment and beauty of Moness.
You deliver first class garden maintenance work as directed by the Grounds Manager to ensure the upkeep of the resort. In their absence, you liaise with resort management to understand guest activity to minimise disruption and promote productivity. In this hands-on role, you conduct pruning, trimming, and shaping to promote healthy growth and the desired aesthetics within formal borders.
We do the right thing and follow the correct procedures; ensure you follow this in the use of all machinery, hand tools, fertilisers, and pesticides. Be prepared and ready to assist with hard and soft landscaping projects; the preparation of ground, paving, simple construction, grubbing out, planting; includes trees/shrubs garden structures, such as fences, trellises, compost areas and other general landscaping operations as needed. Safely remove plants and shrubs that are diseased, damaged, or posing a risk to property or people.
Responding promptly to any emergency situations such as fallen trees blocking accesses or posing immediate hazards; clear debris and restore access, prioritising safety. We promote safe work practices in all areas and take reasonable steps to protect health, safety, welfare and compliance in the gardens and garden areas. The safe use of personal protective equipment, tools, machinery, fertilisers, the use and disposal of chemicals and ensure all waste is managed in accordance with Scottish Waste Regulations.
Action and maintain all garden associated RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and MDS (Model Development Specifications). As directed by the Grounds Manager, apply treatments and medications as necessary to prevent or address diseases and pests. Read, understand and adopt all SOPs. Navigate mobile applications to report and record tasks.
Good written, verbal, interpersonal and IT skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Assist the Supervisor in collecting and maintaining accurate records of the health and condition of the gardens, surrounding areas and environment; maintenance activities; treatments performed, and growth patterns observed in surrounding areas and estate environment. Utilise the Workday platform to record hours and absences. Maintain all tools and equipment used ensuring that they are in good condition, maintained, serviced and used in accordance with safety protocols. Ensure any faults or damage are reported to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor immediately.
Although the role is based at Moness Resort, there will be travel between assets. You will be required to perform tasks that require heavy lifting and physical exertion as well as working in challenging terrain in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and wind. You uphold our exceptional standards while demonstrating passion and flair in the pursuit of service excellence.
Previous experience in a similar role or environment or an estate environment and a real passion for Horticulture with a desire to continually raise the bar of excellence. The ability to identify common diseases and pests; forward-thinking vision of landscaping. Up-to-date knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations. Ability to read and review reports, risk assessments and standard operating procedures. Highly motivated with a sense of pride in work. Excellent time-management with the ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and adapt accordingly to suit the profile of the business. Flexible in approach to working hours to support operational requirements, including peak periods and emergency situations.
NVQ Level 2 or above in horticultural qualification or equivalent. Chainsaw certification. Vocational qualifications relevant to the role including PA1, PA2 and PA6A spraying certificates. Full UK driving license - You will be required to travel between locations.
