This is a hugely rewarding and varied hands-on role and supports the team with the day-to-day operations across the Estate, gardens and farm. Your motivation, flexibility and can-do attitude will see you involved in a wide range of duties, from estate maintenance and working in the formal gardens to supporting agricultural activities. Providing practical support and undertaking a varied range of general maintenance and operational duties and the upkeep of the Estate’s land, woodland, tracks, boundaries, buildings and wider infrastructure.

As an outdoor worker comfortable with physical work your duties can include the safe operation of tractors, ATVs, chainsaws, machinery and other estate equipment; subject to appropriate training, competency and certification. The role contributes to creating memorable visits for our guests and visitors, while bringing a positive, proactive and can-do approach to day-to-day activities. Set in breathtaking scenery; steep tree-covered hillsides, craggy mountains, and the meandering River Lyon the General Estate Worker supports the upkeep and smooth running of Glenlyon estate’s outdoor spaces, buildings, and agricultural areas. Maintaining the natural landscape and gardens through tasks such as grass cutting, planting, and general grounds care. And basic maintenance work, fencing, and assisting with the repair and upkeep of estate buildings.

Working closely with the Estate Management and Maintenance Team to deliver proactive and reactive repairs, maintenance and improvements across residential properties, buildings, access tracks and rural infrastructure.

Fencing, gate installation and repair, boundary maintenance and general countryside work across the Estate. Drainage, ditching, culvert maintenance and water management work. Hedging, scrub clearance and habitat management. The maintenance and repair of estate tracks, roads, gateways, bridges and access routes.

Supporting wildlife, habitat and conservation management activities across the Estate. Supporting agricultural and farming operations; particularly during busy or seasonal periods.

Work flexibly as part of a team, taking pride in attention to detail and contributing to memorable experiences for our guests. Attend and contribute to departmental meetings and wider business meetings, where necessary. Each day is different and you can be based at various locations throughout the estate. You will need good physical fitness and stamina to perform tasks requiring heavy lifting and physical exertion as well as working in challenging terrain in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and wind.

Discover you

Passionate and experienced in a similar role or estate environment, with knowledge of general maintenance, landscaping or agricultural work. A genuine interest in the natural environment, sustainability and conservation, with experience using tools, machinery and grounds maintenance equipment. A natural organiser with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A valid UK Driving license is essential.

A high standard of personal presentation and attention to detail with exemplary time management. Excellent communication, with a natural ability to build rapport and strong relationships creating an enjoyable place to work. People are our priority, understand the need to be agile and adapt accordingly to suit the profile of the business, including the ability to adjust working days and hours of work to meet business needs.
