Our client is a leading company, offering research services to the Drug Discovery sector. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance the understanding of immunological, oncological, neurological and other disease areas. They are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard‑working individual to join their Cellular Sciences Team as a Lead Scientist within advanced microscopy and molecular biology. The Role
This is a role for highly experienced scientists with many years’ experience in drug discovery. They will hold a PhD (or Master’s) in a biologically focused discipline and an extensive track record of leadership positions within drug discovery (industry preferred). This is a technical role where you will still spend some of your time at the bench, but you will be responsible for delivering and strategizing projects through to completion by managing a team of scientists. As a Lead Scientist, you will be responsible for:
- Managing a team of scientists to complete complex drug discovery projects
- Leading, proposing and directing projects relating to drug discovery and disease research
- Editing and creating cell lines through transduction, CRISPR and other molecular biology techniques
- Using various light microscopy techniques including super resolution microscopy, high‑content imaging, confocal imaging, multi‑photonic imaging, live‑cell imaging (e.g. Incucyte)
- Working on complex cellular models, tissues, fixed cells and live‑cell imaging projects
- Establishing strong collaborations and supporting business development as a technical expert to showcase what value imaging projects can have on drug discovery
- Liaising with external collaborators to provide project milestone updates and drive further research initiatives
- Keeping up to date with the latest technological changes and suggesting new tools to be used internally
Skills and Experience Needed
Suitable applicants will have:
- A PhD or Master’s in a biological discipline (essential)
- Proven track record of delivering high‑impact drug discovery projects on‑time and within budget (essential)
- Extensive drug discovery experience through the discovery and pre‑clinical phases, with experience in developing in‑vitro biological assays (essential)
- Many years of post‑PhD experience in running and using various types of light microscopy including confocal, super resolution (PTM, SIM, STED, STORM, PALM, etc.), live‑cell imaging and high‑content imaging (essential)
- Strong cell line editing/engineering experience (CRISPR, lentiviral transduction, transfection, etc.) – CRISPR is essential, others desired
- Previous experience working with industry, either in a company or in close collaboration with an industry partner (essential)
- An understanding of and experience in the disease research or drug discovery sector (essential)
- A strong network in the drug discovery and collaboration experience with other experts in the field (essential)
- Experience in working with nanomedicines such as LNPs, nanoparticle or liposomes (desired)
- Must have indefinite right to work in the UK without need for visa sponsorship (essential)
