Our client is a scientifically passionate company who lead extensive collaborations and offer services to the Drug Discovery and Disease Research sectors. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance the understanding of immunological, oncological, neurological and other disease areas.
Based in Alderley Park, they are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join their Biomarker team as a Temporary Scientist for an initial 3 month spell of projects owing to increased business demand. The Role
This is a role for experienced Histologists who hold a PhD (or Master’s) in a biologically focused discipline, with additional Histology (FFPE / frozen tissues) experience in industry or academia.
As a Temporary Histology Scientist, you will be responsible for:
- Project autonomy – planning, running and reporting projects from start to finish.
- Running projects with pre-clinical (in vivo) and clinical (human) samples across a range of disease areas including oncology and neurodegenerative.
- Conducting sample preparation to create FFPEs and Frozen tissue samples. This will include cryosectioning and microtomy.
- Conducting a range of staining processes, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence based assays (these are semi-automated and manual processes).
- Where applicable, the development of new immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence assays for tissue analysis.
- Using your skills in histopathology to analyse and interpret stained slides.
- Using Visiopharm to conduct molecular profiling and analysis.
- Ensuring project deadlines are hit and that the work has been completed to the expected standard.
- Working in a team of other scientists and collaborating with other departments (imaging, biomarker, in vivo etc).
- Keeping an updated and accurate record of experiments.
Skills and Experience Needed:
Suitable applicants must have:
- A PhD or Master’s in a biological, or equivalent, discipline (essential, equivalent experience welcome)
- Proven experience (preferably 5+ years) in leading histology projects from start to finish (essential), ideally running multiple projects simultaneously (desired)
- Significant experience of Histology and Histopathology (essential)
- Significant experience in FFPE sample preparation including the use of a microtome (essential)
- Significant experience in frozen tissue sample preparation including cryosectioning (essential)
- Significant experience in tissue staining methods including H&E, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry (essential)
- Experience in developing IHC and immunofluorescence assays for histological analysis applications (desired)
- Experience in histopathology and analysis of tissue microscope slides (essential)
- Prior use of Visiopharm software (desired)
- Ability to plan and execute projects whilst managing your own workload and time (essential)
